Construction is underway on “Shops At Jamaica Bay;”Tenants Announce Plans

FORT MYERS, FL – Construction is moving full speed on a new specialty shopping center, “Shops at Jamaica Bay,” on South Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41) in South Fort Myers. Rodney Fidler of Fidler Real Estate Services announces that Henrick’s Jewelers and Bear Rock Café will be located at the center. Henrick’s Jewelers, based in Bonita Springs, has leased 5,678 square feet in Shops at Jamaica Bay for their main Fort Myers store. The Shops will also include the first Southwest Florida location of Bear Rock Café, a casual restaurant featuring salads, sandwiches, soups and fresh-baked breads. Bear Rock Café will occupy 3,449 sq. ft. with additional patio dining. The Shops are expected to open around the end of this year.

The Shops at Jamaica Bay are just south of the intersection of U.S. 41 with Six Mile Cypress Parkway and Gladiolus Drive. That intersection is already a major shopping hub, anchored by a Super WalMart, Home Depot, and Lowe’s Home Improvement Center. “With over 95,000 vehicles a day passing through the intersection, this area of U.S. 41 is the busiest in all of Southwest Florida,” notes Fidler. “This is the primary crossroads for traffic from I-75 and the airport with the islands and beach resort areas. There is also a large resident population in the immediate vicinity.”

The Shops at Jamaica Bay are designed to provide an upscale shopping environment, with space available for smaller stores, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. “All businesses will face U.S. 41,” said Fidler, “with most of the parking directly in front and landscaped walkways connecting all stores.” The project recognizes the demand for quality space to accommodate both local and national retailers within this shopping district, which includes large stores, restaurants, banks, and other retail services. A total of nearly 12,000 sq. ft. remains available, in units from 1,070 sq. ft.

The Shops at Jamaica Bay is on the east side of South Tamiami Trail at the intersection with Jamaica Bay Boulevard, between Fifth Third Bank and the site of the new Mercedes-Benz auto dealership. The Shops main entrance will be on U.S. 41, identified by a large sign with a water feature, as well as access to the traffic signal at the intersection.

The Shops at Jamaica Bay are being developed by ORBIS Properties, with design services by Sheeley Architects and TDM Consulting, Inc., Engineers. STULTZ, Inc. is the construction manager and general contractor for the project.
